The Chiefs were looking for their first preseason victory last night.  It appears they’ll need to look somewhere else, some other time.  The defense gave up an awful lot of yardage in a 30-7 drubbing at the hands of the New Orleans Saints.  Brodie Croyle started as quarterback, going 5-of-17 for 45 yards.  Jared Allen managed a sack and four tackles.  Number-one draft pick Dwayne Bowe went for 21 yards.  Rookie Tank Tyler got a sack.  The Chiefs did score one late touchdown, only their second offensive score of the preseason.  New Orleans had 492 yards of offense, versus the Chiefs’ 153.  Coach Herm Edwards says it’s clear to him the team is not ready for the real thing, which is only two weeks away.  But he says a loss like last night’s can be a real character builder.
