Dominated in Denver; Chiefs Fall Bad 41-7 to Broncos

A long season got even longer for the Chiefs on Sunday in Denver, as the team dropped another game, their sixth straight, getting blown out by the Broncos 41-7. Led by a four touchdown day for Jay Cutler, and 156 yards on the ground for Selvin Young, the Broncos romped all over KC dropping the Chiefs record to 4-8. While the Chiefs are just hoping to make it to 6-7 wins, the Broncos still have the slightest of hope for a wild card spot in the AFC, but would need tons of things to happen to make it.

It was Denver’s biggest blowout in seven seasons, led by Cutler, Young, and on defense by Elvis Dumervil, who had three sacks and a forced fumble. The game was a blowout from the start, as Cutler hit Brandon Stokley with a 21-yard TD less than two minutes in to go up 7-0. Then Travis Henry went in from a yard out with 7:13 left in the quarter to make it 14-0. Consider the beating officially on.

Brodie Croyle made a game of it for a few moments, as he hit Tony Gonzalez with a 15-yard score to make it 14-7 with 6:09 left in the half. From there the Broncos never took their foot off the Chiefs throat. They got a TD from Cutler to Brandon Marshall to make it 21-7 with 1:55 left in the half, and then Jason Elam kicked a field goal to make it 24-7 at the half. Denver dominated the third, scoring two TD’s and getting another Elam field goal to close out the scoring.

Croyle was 15-for-29 for 132 yards, was sacked five times, and threw one pick to go along with the one TD. The Chiefs offense was basically awful, only putting up 129 yards on 51 plays, an average of 2.5 yards per play. They had just seven first downs, and held the ball for 25:35. They now fall to 4-9, and have not won a game for close to two months, the last time in the win column beating the Raiders back on October 21st. The Chiefs will be at home for the Titans at 1pm.
