In what may be lowest point in recent Chiefs History, the Chiefs fell 23-8 to the Oakland Raiders. marking the 11th straight regular season loss for the Chiefs and the second consecutive home loss to the Raiders. Lane Kiffin and the Raiders meanwhile celebrate a victory that keeps them from falling to 0-2 and gets their embattled head coach off of the hot seat for at least a week.

The Raiders took the lead early in this one thanks to a 56 yard Sebastian Jankowski field goal. After a Damon Huard interception and injury in the first quarter Tyler Thigpen came in relief of Huard but was unsuccessful in moving the offense in the first half. The Raiders took advantage of the Chiefs lack of offense by knocking in one more field goal taking the game to 6-0 going into half

The second half opened up as Darren McFadden?s welcome to the NFL game. McFadden exploded in the second half with four plus runs of over 20 yards or more. Including a 51 yarder and a 19 yard touchdown scamper that gave the Raiders a 13-0 advantage and capped a 95 yard drive that put a nail in the coffin of the Chiefs . McFadden ended the game with 164 yards on 21 carries.


The Raiders shutout ended half way thru the fourth quarter as Tyler Thigpen was able to lead the Chiefs on a scoring drive, taking advantage of the Raiders prevent defense Thigpen led the team down the field on a 9 play drive that culminated with a two yard Thigpen to Gonzalez touchdown. The Chiefs would also succeed on the two point conversion attempt making it 16-8 Raiders. After the Chiefs defense stopped the Raiders offense K.C. had one more shot with the ball, but after a Thigpen interception the Raiders would put the game away with a 32 yard Mike Bush touchdown run.


The Positives

While there was not many positives to take out this game there are still some positives for the Chiefs. The defense looked good until the Raiders started running it down their gullet in the second half. Which might be an indictment on the Chiefs offense not being able to stay on the field and wearing out their own defenses. Not that they even had to think about passing but the Chiefs did hold the Raiders to 55 yards passing. The other positive the Chiefs could look to in this game is the comeback of second year receiver Dwayne Bowe. After dropping 4 passes last week and potentially costing the Chiefs the upset in New England. Bowe responded with 6 catches for 90 yards including and electric falling down 30 yard catch down the sideline that allowed the Chiefs offense to get some momentum in the second half.

The Negatives

The Chiefs did a decent job of stopping the run in the first half but in the second half boy did the wheels ever fall off. A combination of poor tackling and defensive lineman being blown off the ball allowed the Raiders to run for over 300 yards. What makes it even worse for the Chiefs is only about half of those yards went to McFadden which means the Chiefs gave up a 140 yards running to players who are not starters in the NFL. The other big big negative for the Chiefs is they still don?t know who their signal caller of the future is going to be. Damon Huard could only last one quarter, Tyler Thigpen looked overmatched and lost until late in the fourth quarter when the Raiders switched to a prevent defense. This will be a lost season for the Chiefs if they can?t find a QB who can get the most out of their players and talents.
