Gonzalez Seems None Too Happy Peterson’s Leaving

Tony Gonzalez spent part of that hour insisting he was not relieved that Peterson was leaving his perch. It was Peterson whom Gonzalez visited two months ago and asked for a trade. Gonzalez was one of Peterson’s favorites, one of a handful, and the star tight end wanted to depart a team that didn’t seem as cozy as it once did. The Chiefs had started over with young players, and Gonzalez is 32, ancient around this locker room.

Kansas City hadn’t won a playoff game since Peterson and Gonzalez got together in 1997. Peterson didn’t make that trade. Gonzalez was angry, and he lashed out at Peterson and said the boss wouldn’t even take a call from a man he thought was among his favorites. Gonzalez said Monday night that his relationship with Peterson had not yet been mended. They didn’t speak for a long time. At least some things had improved. “We say hello now,” Gonzalez said
