Vets continue to stay away from Kansas City

Veteran Brian Waters and Mike Vrabel stayed away from the Chiefs’ offseason workout session Monday. They both stayed away from a minicamp last month. Tight end Tony Gonzalez also stayed away from that camp. He was traded not long after.
It is clear that is the avenue Waters, a Pro Bowl guard, wants. Waters has been unhappy with the new Kansas City regime. He is looking for a new home.
However, it may not be easy now that the draft is over. The Chiefs may want to consider moving Waters. He has been a strong leader in Kansas City, but with him staying away from these two (albeit it volunteer) camps, it means he is no longer interested being a leader in Kansas City.
While Waters is a nice player, his presence will not make the Chiefs an instant contender. It may be worth Kansas City’s while to end a potential distraction and try to find a new home for Waters.
I’m not sure what to think about Vrabel’s absence. I wouldn’t think he is trying to make a statement. Vrabel has little leverage since he was just traded to Kansas City and he is nearing the end of his career.
Vrabel can help this team and the team clearly has no intentions of moving him. He should join his new teammates and start the final phase of his career.
