NFL.com’s Steve Wyche did a chat today on NFL.com, and answered a question about the Chiefs change to a 3-4 defense in 2009:
I think the Chiefs will ease into the 3-4. When he was with Arizona, new Chiefs defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast did a good job of transitioning a 4-3 front into a 3-4. The Cardinals didn’t have ideal 3-4 personnel so he used multiple front with 3-4 principles, using linemen line Antonio Smith, Bertrand Berry, Travis LaBoy and Darnell Dockett in a variety of ways. Pendergast will do the same with the Chiefs until they can acquire all the pieces they need to play a hard 3-4 the majority of the time.
