Five players to watch Chiefs vs. Texans

Chiefs Texans Football
1. Tamba Hali: Much has been made of Tamba Hali’s conversion from pass rushing defensive end to outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense. After early struggles in OTA’s and training camp Hali has fought hard and started to work himself back into the coaches good graces, at least that is what his coach had to say.
Q: Where is Tamba Hali in his transition from defensive end to linebacker?
HALEY: “I think this kid is a hungry kid who wants to be really good. There isn’t a time that you don’t see him working. A lot of things you don’t see. I went into the (weight room) the other day and there was a pool of sweat around (weight machine) the size of a small lake and I knew Tamba had been there. Then, you see him after practice and you see him before practice and with his own money he purchased a football station that he can watch tape. He’s doing all the things to try to be really good. I would say he’s starting to look like an outside backer.”
Q: It’s tough to ask change position, but how has he been making that transition?
HALEY: “I think he’s starting to look like a linebacker. Just saying that I think is pretty positive.”
Keep a eye on Hali not only to see if he can regain his old pass rushing form but also to see if he can keep up with receivers and tight ends in coverage.

2. Dwayne Bowe: After being demoted earlier this week to the third team, D-Bowe “The Show” quite possibly the most talented offensive player has been inching his way back up the depth chart. For Bowe to fully regain his starting position he will have to prove to the coaching staff that he understands football is a team game and not just about D-Bowe. Expect Bowe to play a majority of the first half as a lesson to Bowe to show him he is not yet the super star he thinks he is. It could be a long road back for Bowe since he has not yet got Haley back on his bandwagon.
Q: Is Bowe starting to do some things to earn some more playing time with the ones?
HALEY: “I thought he probably made one of his better plays of camp yesterday on the sideline. He competed for the football and made a play. I thought today it looked like he was competing to the football and with the football. I would say in the last two games there has been some progress.”

3. Glenn Dorsey: It was not that long ago that Dorsey was touted as a can’t miss prospect in the draft, since that time Dorsey has been hampered by a leg injury a majority of his rookie season and now is facing a position change to defensive end for the first time in his career. While Dorsey is learning a new position keep your eye on Dorsey to see if he is able to keep containment from the end position and to see if he can recapture that explosiveness that allowed him to blow up plays and be such a force at LSU.

4.Jackie Battle: No one player has climbed further up the roster since the beginning of training camp than Battle, at one time Battle was almost a lock to be cut now with Kolby Smith likely heading to the PUP list Battle is almost a shoe in to make the team. The coaching staff has been so enamored with Battle they have lined him up every where on the field from gunner on special teams to third down back, where Battle will give Jamaal Charles run for his money for that spot. Keep your eye on Battle to see if he can be as effective in a game situation or if he is just a practice hero.

5. Turk McBride: Nobody was effected as much by the switch to the 3-4 defense as McBride, former second round pick who was drafted as a DT/DE has been moved to OLB. All reports out of training camp say McBride has been slow to pick up his new position. McBride is barely clinging on to his roster spot and will need a impressive preseason to keep it, keep a eye on McBride to see if he is able to make any plays from the OLB position as the Chiefs may be trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with this one.
