Haley and Weis Counting on Cassel to Step Up

While there is talk concerning the QB spot for the Chiefs, for now Todd Haley says the job remains with Matt Cassel, and he’s the guy that will lead KC into the 2010 season.

“I would say right now Matt is our quarterback and he’s who we are counting on to continue to improve all areas of his game in order to help him and ultimately us play at a high level,” said Haley. “I think Matt has had to continue to have to earn that through last year, through the offseason, that’s part of the process.”

OC Charlie Weis also says that the teams offense starts and ends with Cassel, a guy that got a huge deal to come to the team after a deal with New England.

“If the quarterback plays better, usually the team plays better,” Weis said. “You sit there and say that about the offensive line and others, but think about it, there are only two players on offense that have the ball in their hands on every play and that is the center and the quarterback. They are the guys that can do the most help and are also the guys that can do the most harm.”
