Ex-Chiefs RB Larry Johnson Asks For Change Of Venue For Lawsuit

Former Chiefs running back Larry Johnson can’t find enough love — or even indifference — in Kansas City anymore, his lawyer argued Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court. Johnson, who is being sued by a Lawrence woman over a 2008 incident in which he allegedly spat a drink on her at a Kansas City bar, has asked for a change of venue. His lawyer, Jack T. Bangert, suggested Lafayette County to a judge Wednesday but said any place would be better than Kansas City.

“If we can’t get a change of venue in this case, it is insurmountable,” Bangert said. “We want to go anywhere but here.” Finding ill will for Johnson among Kansas City sports fans wasn’t difficult for Bangert after Johnson wore out his welcome among some local fans after incidents involving women and alcohol. Though Johnson initially was charged with misdemeanor assault in two cases, he eventually pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace in municipal court.
