2010 Look Back – Chiefs Open 2010 Season with 21-14 Win Over Chargers

Today we start a look back at the 2010 season, as the Chiefs won the AFC West and reached the postseason. Today it’s the season opener vs the Chargers were the team got on track with a seven-point win.

If NFL football game final scores were dictated by the statistics alone, then the San Diego Chargers on Monday night against the host Kansas City Chiefs would have won the battle as they outgained the Chiefs 389-197. Nearly a 2-to-1 advantage, all told. But that’s not how this league rolls.

From what I saw from the 60 minutes, it seemed to me that the Chargers made too many mental mistakes early on and Ryan Matthews made some rookie mistakes. Of course the weather factored in, but not enough to really affect the final outcome.

When the smoke cleared, despite Rivers’ best efforts, Kansas City managed to hold on in the final 3 minutes of the final period and hold off San Diego 21-14 and for one week take sole possession of first place of the AFC West.
