Chiefs Gab Rapid Recap: Falcons Bury Chiefs 40-24

Not much went good for the Chiefs Sunday in their opener, as the defense was torched by Matt Ryan and the Falcons for 40 points in a 16-point loss.

The good – the offense was able to put up 24, but the final 7 clearly came in garbage time with the game out of hand.

The defense allowed Atlanta to go for 376 yards, and Ryan was 23-for-31 for 299 yards with three touchdowns. The Chiefs secondary, which is a work in progress, had no answer for 2nd year WR Julio Jones, who went off for 6 grabs for 108 yards with two scores.

Former Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez had 5 grabs for 53 yards with a score in what will be likely his final game at Arrowhead Stadium.

Overall not much good but a whole lot that the Chiefs will be able to work on after watching this game tape on Monday. Matt Cassel was 21-for-33 for 258 yards with 1 TD and two picks.

Kansas City will head to Buffalo to play the Bills next week.
