The Chiefs tried to do things as normally as possible on Sunday. One thing that wasn’t so normal was the teams second win of 2012.
Kansas City topped the Carolina Panthers 27-21, just about 28 hours after starting LB Jovan Belcher shot himself outside the teams facility at Arrowhead Stadium.
The team rallied behind QB Brady Quinn, who went 19-for-23 for 201 yards with a pair of touchdowns in the win. Quinn had a QB rating of 132.1 in the victory.
Jamaal Charles ran for 127 yards, as KC snapped an eight-game losing streak during one of the most difficult seasons the franchise has ever experienced.
Cam Newton went 15-for-27 for 232 yards with three touchdowns for the Panthers, who lost to drop to 3-9 on the season.
The Chiefs took the lead for good on the final play of the half, as Quinn hit TE Tony Moeaki with a 1-yard TD to give KC a 17-14 lead. They added on with a TD from Quinn to Jon Baldwin to make it 24-17 in the third quarter.
Ryan Succop kicked a 52-yard field goal with 4:54 left to give the Chiefs a 27-21 lead for good.
