Chiefs nose tackle Dontari Poe is recovering from back surgery to repair a herniated disc and is out indefinitely according to BJ Kissel of kcchiefs.com.

It is possible that Poe will miss the entire 2015 season, although head coach Andy Reid says there is a “reasonable chance” that the talented nose tackle could return towards the end of the season and help wih a potential playoff push.

Poe was slow to develop for the Chiefs but has become one of the NFL’s premier nose tackles so his loss is a huge blow for Kansas City, especially for a run defense that was one of the worst in the AFC in 2014. Poe has missed just one game in three NFL seasons. Jaye Howard is the next man up on the depth chart.
