Fake Andy Reid Having a Ball Upstaging the Real Andy at Chiefs Camp

fake Andy Reid

A man with a neatly trimmed mustache stepped in front of a lectern Monday following the Chiefs’ sixth practice of training camp. It was coach Andy Reid’s time to talk, and the man resembled Reid, from his gear to his facial hair, Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports.

But it was not Andy Reid. It was Chris Wilhelm, 40, of Lancaster, Pa., otherwise known as Fake Andy Reid. Wilhelm has appeared in Reid garb during games and ESPN, but this was first time meeting the real Andy Reid, and the Chiefs allowed him to answer a few questions from the media in the name of fun.

“Well, glad to see everybody here today,” Wilhelm said. “Really no injuries to report. Team’s looking pretty great out there. So with that being said, time’s yours.”

After a few questions, the real Andy Reid — who was standing a few feet away — piped up and stepped in.

“That’s my cue, good looking,” Reid yelled before commandeering his news conference. “Come on beautiful, go get you a hamburger.”

When Reid was done, he posed for a picture with Wilhelm and his wife, capping off a great day for one of Reid’s biggest fans.

“This is the greatest day ever, man,” said Wilhelm, who credited co-offensive coordinator Matt Nagy — who is also from Lancaster — for setting up the appearance. “I’ve been trying to meet Andy for three years and I just did an NFL press conference, man. Life doesn’t get much better.”
