The Chiefs have placed nose tackle Xavier Williams on injured reserve according to the team’s official website.
Williams suffered a severe high-ankle sprain in Sunday night’s upset loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
The move to IR will cost Williams at least the next eight games but he is a candidate to return late in the season for an expected playoff run.
Originally an undrafted free agent out of Northern Iowa, the 27-year-old Williams has been a mainstay of the Chiefs defensive line the past two seasons after starting his career with the Arizona Cardinals.
