Winning a Super Bowl will do wonders, and for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes he’s now set to be the highest paid player in the history of North American sports.
The Chiefs and Mahomes agreed on Monday on a deal that will pay him a whopping $503 million dollars over 10 years, keeping him with the Chiefs through the 2031 season.
How extensive is the deal that Mahomes is signing? How about 117 pages.
It is worth a colossal $503 million with $477 million in guarantee mechanisms which gives Mahomes the ability to have outs if the mechanisms are not exercised, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.
As pointed out, the deal is the first time in history that a player is set to make over $500 million in a contract, and it couldn’t go to a better player.
Mahomes will get a $10 million signing bonus after he and the Chiefs rallied to overtake the 49ers in February’s Super Bowl, giving the Chiefs their first Super Bowl victory since Super Bowl IV.
The QB tweeted out a reaction video that ended with: “And we’re staying together … for a long time. We’re chasing a dynasty.”
Both the Chiefs and Mahomes wanted to get the deal done before the start of training camp in July, so in that regard the two sides got what they wanted.
