NFL Draft: Chiefs Day One Reaction

jackson
Disapointment would have to be the first thing that comes to mind, with sure fire LB prospect Aaron Curry on the board and the Chiefs in desperate need of a playmaking LB they opt to pass on Curry to select DE Tyson Jackson out of LSU. With the selection of Jackson the Chiefs have selected a LSU player with their first pick the last three years.

Not to say Jackson will not be a player in the 3-4 defense I just think the Chiefs could have traded back and still got Jackson at #8 or #9 in the draft. To make things even more frustrating the Cleveland Browns who picked two slots later in the draft were able to trade their pick to the Jets for the Jets first and second rounder this year something the Chiefs could have desperately used.

All told the Browns traded back three times accumulating five extra picks, Scott Pioli could have really used those extra five picks to start to mold this team the way he wants it. The last thing that bothered me about the Chief’s draft was the inability to shop the Tony-G second round pick in 2010, Brian Waters and Larry Johnson and parlay those parts into a 2009 second round pick.

I am not saying Pioli has already blown this draft, he made his name on day two of the draft so I will wait to give him a pass or fail grade until tomorrow concludes but so far results are mixed at best.
