Chiefs Ink Free Agent FB Le’Ron McClain

The Chiefs have a new lead blocker for running back Jammal Charles. Former Ravens fullback and free agent Le’Ron McClain has agreed to terms with the Chiefs. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A fourth-round pick out of Alabama in 2007, the 6-foot, 260-pound McClain led the Ravens in 2008 with 902 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground, earning the first of his two Pro Bowls.

With the emergence of Ray Rice at running back, McClain has gone back to a more traditional fullback role, carrying the ball 74 times for 285 yards with two touchdowns, and adding 42 receptions for 275 yards over the last two seasons. Last offseason, McClain started a Twitter campaign called “McClain 4 RB”, which even spawned a fansite.

The Ravens signed Pro Bowl fullback Vonta Leach to a three-year, $11 million contract, officially ending McClain’s stint with the team.

In Kansas City, McClain will pave the way for Charles, who has topped 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons. Charles is slight of build, meaning McClain could get some opportunities in short-yardage and goal-line situations.
