Chiefs safety Eric Berry did not practice on Wednesday and his availability for Sunday’s season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers remains uncertain according to the team’s official website.
Head coach Andy Reid keeps stressing that Berry’s status is “day-to-day” but the 29-year-old has not practiced since August 11 due to what has been described as a “sore heel”. While the Chiefs keep publicly saying they are not overly concerned, any heel issue has to be considered serious for a player who missed the entire 2017 season after tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 1.
The Chiefs turned over their entire secondary, shedding six cornerbacks from last year’s team and plan to start Ron Parker at one of the two safety spots after he was just signed over the weekend. Philip Rivers should have a field day on Sunday.
