Can Patrick Mahomes Follow Up His MVP Season with a Repeat in 2019?

Patrick Mahomes became the talk of the NFL last season, as the 23-year-old quarterback really jumped to the forefront of the league with his MVP season.

The Chiefs starting quarterback threw for 5097 yards with 50 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, and took the Chiefs all the way to overtime of the AFC Championship Game before losing to the Patriots.

The question about Mahomes remains, as despite a huge 2018, there’s going to be plenty of doubt if he can follow it up with another huge campaign.

There was a sense last year that he kind of ‘snuck’ up on other teams that had not seen him yet, and this season he will by all means not be able to do that.

There’s going to be more than enough tape on Mahomes and the way that he plays that teams are going to be able to prepare better.

With that, the Chiefs also have a number of question marks on the roster.

The team does not know what they are going to get from leading wide out Tyreek Hill, who likely could wind up having to miss a few games with a suspension.

While Hill is a playmaker when he’s on the field, he does the team no good if he has to miss any amount of time with a suspension.

Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson, Marcus Kemp and Mecole Hardman currently all make up the receiver core, and while Watkins is really the only other established name, it also gives a chance for other players to step up.

Mahomes is an amazing player with plenty of upside even after a 50 touchdown season in 2018, and while there’s going to be questions, he’s a player that very well could be once again the best in the league.

Last season Mahomes went over 300 yards in 10 of the team’s 16 regular season games. He never threw for less than 243 yards in a game.

Can he repeat those numbers in 2019? It won’t be easy, but he’s a young dynamic player who should be able to continue the high standard of play he set up for himself last season.

Count on Mahomes to again be a focal point of the Chiefs offense in 2019, and to again put up huge numbers for a team that should be right back on the cusp of the Super Bowl.
