Are the Chiefs Interested in Trading Wide Out Tyreek Hill?

While longterm contract talks are expected to resume now that the NFL has announced they will not suspend Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, it is also possible that the Chiefs that the team may look to trade Hill according to Mike Florio of Pro Football

The two sides were reportedly far apart when talks broke off in the wake of child abuse allegations against the wideout.

It is rumored that Hill is seeking $20 million annually-a figure that is not unreasonable given his phenomenal production since the Chiefs drafted him in the fifth round out of West Alabama in 2016.

That monetary figure could price him out of Kansas City considering the Chiefs will have to pony up what may be the most lucrative contract ever to quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the near future. And the Chiefs might hesitate to commit that kind of money to a player with Hill’s off-the-field history.

The wildcard in all of this is rookie wide receiver Mecole Hardman.

It was assumed the Chiefs traded up in the second round to draft the speedy Georgia wideout as a short-term replacement for Hill, who at the time was widely expect to face a lengthy suspension and even possible banishment from the NFL. Hardman has much the same skillset as Hill so it is possible the short-term substitute could become the longterm solution in Kansas City.

And Hardman is under contract for the next four years at a total payout of less than $5 million.

All that being said, it is impossible to imagine the Chiefs trading Hill in 2019, although he could be a hot name at the trade deadline in late October. But the team could decide to let Hill play out his contract this season, apply the franchise tag in 2020, and then trade him like they did defensive end Dee Ford this offseason.
