Chiefs to Keep Their Summer Training Camp in St. Joseph

The Chiefs are returning to St. Joseph for training camp according to the Kansas City Star.

The Super Bowl champions announced a three-year agreement to preserve Missouri Western State University as their training camp home through at least the 2022 season. The agreement includes an option to extend the deal to 2024.

The Chiefs began holding training camp on the campus in 2010.

“Our team researched and reviewed a number of viable options over the past six months. Through those meetings and discussions, we unanimously decided to return to St. Joseph,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said in a statement.

Chiefs Top 49’ers 31-20 to Take Home Super Bowl LIV for First Title Win in 50 Years

Despite trailing 20-10 entering the 4th quarter, the Chiefs rallied for 21 fourth quarter points to take home their first Super Bowl since Super Bowl IV, topping the 49’ers Sunday in Miami 31-20.

Pat Mahomes was the MVP in the win, as he went 26 of 42 for 286 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Mahomes also had a rushing TD in the win.

Here’s the highlights of the win:

Could WR Sammy Watkins Be on the Chopping Block for the Chiefs This Offseason? has out a list of one player for each AFC team they think might be on the chopping block this offseason.

For the Chiefs the site has picked WR Sammy Watkins as the player that could find himself released. Here’s what they have to say about Watkins getting cut.

Kansas City Chiefs – WR Sammy Watkins

Dead Cap Hit $7M, Cap Saving $14M

Longstanding Sammy Watkins truthers embarked on the victory lap to end all victory laps after Week 1 this season, with Watkins dropping 198 yards and 3 touchdowns on the Jaguars. Fans knew that, in their hearts of hearts, that Watkins was unlikely to command 11 targets a game from that point forward. But the hope was that he had finally put it all together, and could become a vital cog in one of the NFL’s signature offenses.

This hope, it turns out, was misplaced. Despite averaging 6.6 targets per game, Watkins was only able to deliver an average less than 40 receiving yards per outing, finishing the season with 673 yards. He never found the end zone again. The Kansas City Chiefs have an abundance of young wide receivers, and the prospect of saving $14 Million to be rid of Watkins and develop some of the youngsters is one they will surely look forward to.

Andy Reid Not Worried About 49’ers Pass Rusher Dee Ford Knowing the Chiefs Offense

There’s been speculation about what 49’ers pass rusher Dee Ford will be able to bring to the table in terms of knowing the Chiefs and their game plan when the two teams go at it in Super Bowl 54 Sunday.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid doesn’t seem to think that it’s going to matter much, and what Ford knows won’t translate into hurting Kansas City on game day.

“I don’t think it matters that he knows our offense,” Reid said. “I’m sure he’s studying hard to get back in the swing of it.”

Reid spoke as well about the reported “Ill will” for the Chiefs against Ford, to which the Chiefs coach says there is none.

“Dee’s a good football player,” Reid said. “We drafted him in the first round out of Auburn and he was very productive for us, and he’s done a nice job for them — not that they needed a lot of help on their defensive line, but he’s been a nice addition for them. There are not a lot of pass rushers better than Dee in the National Football League.”

Ford put up 6.5 sacks for the 49ers in 2019.

Chiefs Add Veteran Linebacker Terrell Suggs Off Waivers

The Chiefs added some pass rushing help on Monday, as the team claimed veteran pass rusher Terrell Suggs, who was waived by the Arizona Cardinals last week.

The 37-year-old Suggs has 138 career sacks, with all but the 5 1/2 he made for Arizona this season coming with the Baltimore Ravens from 2003-18, where he was a seven-time Pro Bowler.

Suggs, who won the NFL Defensive Player of Year award in 2011 after totaling 70 tackles and 14 sacks, signed as a free agent with Arizona after the 2018 season.
